Overview: Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology is accepting applications for a teaching artist residency for this winter of 2019. We are committed to directly engaging The Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology students with curriculum integrated residencies designed and implemented by working contemporary artists. Formerly The Green School, the newly named Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology is operating its second year with a new focus. We are looking for teaching artists who can integrate art and technology into the school curriculum.
Purpose of Position: We seek experienced, innovative Teaching Artists with an active contemporary art practice for an in- school, curriculum integrated art residency with High School students at The Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology. Teaching Artists will work alongside Classroom Teachers providing arts integrated instruction with a focus on the Living Environment Science Curriculum. The site-specific residency is unique, and is developed to meet the needs of the individual subject. Residencies will be 18 hours and are carefully planned with Residency Coordinator Ellie Balk and the Williamsburg High School of Arts and Technology classroom teachers.
Teaching Artists are expected to implement a student centered, integrated residency using arts and technology to increase student knowledge of academic subjects, while engaging students through creative projects and lessons relevant to their culture, needs and learning styles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Meeting with coordinator and school staff to determine their needs;
Customizing an arts focused project that integrates well with school’s core curriculum and educational mission;
Provide Budget and Planning outlines
Provide Pre and Post Evaluations
Maintaining communication with the school and residency coordinator to report outcomes, make changes in program design, and assist with assessment;
Completing projects, final reports and curriculum in a timely manner.
Qualifications
Complete body of work representing personal artistic practice and exploration;
Experience creating art and developing projects with youth.
Teaching and curriculum development experience a plus;
Exhibit commitment to youth development and community building;
Ability to connect art to contemporary issues and situations.
Compensation & Schedule
This particular residency will take place during the school day, from 8am-3pm. The teaching artist will be scheduled to come in for 18 contact hours. The days are flexible and will be scheduled with the partner teachers and the teaching artist. We would like to focus the residency January 30th through February 15th.
18 contact hours @ $70/ hr $1,260
8 hours prep/documentation @$35 hour $280
total: $1,540
+ $300 for supplies as needed

a sample proposal idea of a public art project with high school students in the subject of Biology and Body Systems. This proposal should be for an indoor project and be geared for whole class participation (25-30 students per class). We are looking for an artist that works in forms and 3 dimensional art, focused around objects and ideas around permanent installation in the classroom. Also artists that can integrate technology into the process is a plus, but not required.
